Over Christmas break, my mom and I went to check out the only cupcakery near my hometown -
Too Nice to Slice Bakery in Oxford. We selected a half dozen flavors to try and, after some running around, set about trying them out.

Dark Chocolate Fudge |
Dark Chocolate Fudge - The frosting was delicious, but the cake was a bit dry. The fact that the icing did not firm up over time helped to counter that a little. Mimi - All I got was it was dry. I don't even remember the icing.
|
German Chocolate |
German Chocolate - cake was very moist and had a good light chocolate flavor. Coconut in frosting was tasty. Mimi - could have used more nuts.
|
Red Velvet |
|
Cross-section of red velvet for color |
Red Velvet - A dense cake with a gorgeous red coloring. I really liked this one, though the frosting was a bit strong. Mimi - Good overall.
|
French Vanilla Buttercream |
French Vanilla with Buttercream - Lets face it... it's a vanilla cupcake. The frosting was a little crystally to me, but the cake was moist and had a decent vanilla flavor to it. Mimi - Meh... I was not impressed with that one.
|
Strawberry Cake |
Strawberry Cake - Good strawberry flavor in a moist-ish cake... the frosting was weird for me though. Don't now that it had a distinct flavor I could pinpoint (I would have loved some cream cheese frosting on this one). Mimi - very vanilla icing, the cake has just a hint of strawberry, but not much.
|
Butter Pecan |
Butter Pecan - Dense cake with a good frosting flavor (not very familiar with butter pecan, so I can't say exactly what it is). Mimi - Definitely a butter pecan flavor. Still was a little dry.
Overall favorite? Me: tie between Red Velvet and the Dark Chocolate Fudge; Mimi: In terms of cake, German Chocolate; frosting, none really wowed me.
